About The Festival
The Cumbria Festival Committee - 2016/17The All England Theatre Festival, of which the Cumbria Drama Festival is a preliminary round, is the only nationwide eliminating contest for one act plays in performance. It exists to provide amateur drama companies with an opportunity for measuring the standard of their work and learning how to improve it; of seeing the work of other companies and hearing the constructive criticism of an experienced adjudicator; of playing in new and varying conditions before widely differing audiences. It seeks to encourage, in amateurs, originality and adventure in the choice of plays. It offers to audiences the assistance of an expert judge in assessing and appreciating what they see on the stage.
The winner of the All England Theatre Festival goes forward to compete with the winners of equivalent festivals in Wales, Scotland and Ulster in the British One-Act Drama Final.
Entry to the Cumbria Drama Festival is open to all amateur drama societies/groups in Cumbria and the northern fringes of Lancashire.

Yet again the decision was taken to have no North-West Quarter-Final this year. So CATS, the winners of this year's Cumbria Drama Festival, will now pass directly to a two-day Northern Semi-Final on May 6th/7th at the Saltburn Community Centre.
Our adjudicator this year was Joe Riley.
Next Year (2016/2017)
Now that the 2017 Cumbrian Preliminary is behind us, it's time to start thinking about next year.
