Programme and Results for 2004

Reg. Charity No. 1071518

The 2004 Festival - March 13th

This year, with only three entries, so we were reduced to a one-night festival. However, what we may have lacked in quantity was made up for in quality. All the plays performed were thoroughly entertaining - no “deep inner meaning” this year.

The Adjudicator - Mr Basil Soper, BA, GODA

Basil Soper enjoys a wide-ranging background of experience in the artistic, administrative and technical areas of the entertainment profession, and has a BA degree in the performing arts. As an actor and theatre company manager, he has appeared in the West End; frequently toured the UK, and enjoyed a long and highly successful tour of Amadeus, which gathered a cult following throughout southern Africa. He was offered an immediate contract as a radio actor and narrated more than forty episodes of the top-rated radio drama series The Kappilan of Malta.

He is a skilled theatre director in both serious drama and light entertainment, and also an experienced radio presenter and producer. With his rich, warm, authoritative voice, he is in demand as a narrator and voice-over artist for radio, film, corporate video and television documentaries.

He has written and narrated concert versions of several of the Gilbert and Sullivan operas, and was a regular writer and presenter for “Passion of the Tenors” Classical Concerts.

His television appearances include Live from the London Palladium; Live from Her Majesty’s; Night of 100 Stars from The National Theatre, all supporting Russ Abbot; My Secret Desired (Granada TV); and several plays for BBC and Granada.

He appears weekly as the “Voiceover Man”, for the BBCtv series The Basil Brush Show.

Like many professional friends and colleagues, he enjoyed his beginnings in several amateur societies, presenting plays and musicals.

Some years ago, he was accepted into membership by the Guild of Drama Adjudicators and very much enjoys sharing his knowledge, experience and skills as a festival drama adjudicator.
