Join us. You’ll enjoy it!

Even if you don’t fancy “treading the boards”, you can still be very helpful to us, just by doing whatever you do best! We need set designers, scenery builders, property makers, scene painters, lighting enthusiasts, dressmakers, hairdressers, make up experts, programme designers, publicity people and, last but not least, front of house personnel to set out seats, sell tickets, run raffles, organise refreshments or just show people to their seats. For our pantomimes, we also need musicians and singers. Although, surprisingly, we have little use for butchers, bakers or candlestick makers, if you can handle a saw, hammer, screwdriver, paintbrush, wire cutters, soldering iron, needle and thread, scissors, pen, musical instrument, operate a sound system or lighting console, make a decent cup of tea or coffee - or almost anything else, then we’d like to meet you.
... And if you really can act (or would like to give it a try), then we’d be even more pleased to see you.
At the present time we are particularly in need of people, especially men, in the age range 20 to 40. Why not come along with some of your friends? We’re sure you’ll not regret it.
Classes of Membership
We have five classes of membership:
Full Members can act in our productions and participate in our social activities. They have full voting rights and may serve on our executive committee and reading committee. They must be at least 18 years old. Full membership is a real bargain at only £12 per year.
Patrons cannot act in our productions unless specifically invited but they may participate in our social events. They may attend annual general and extraordinary general meetings but have no voting rights and may not serve on committees. They must be at least 18 years old. The current subscription for patrons is a minimum of £6 per year.
Junior Members must be at least 14 years old. If 18 or over, they must be in full time secondary education. They an act in productions, but cannot vote at meetings or serve on committees. Junior membership currently costs £6 per year. Children of full members and patrons may take part in the society’s activities without becoming junior members, since this class of membership was essentially created for those whose parents are not members of the society.
Life Members have all the rights of full members but pay no subscription. This class of membership is awarded by the membership, normally at an AGM, only to those members who have given the society many years of exceptional service.
Temporary Members can take part in our productions and social activities but may not vote in our elections. Temporary membership is granted at the discretion of the Executive Committee and may be limited to a specific production or time period.
How do I join?
There are many ways of joining us, the easiest being to contact John Larkham, our secretary. You can write to him at 12 Seascale Park, Seascale, Cumbria CA20 1HD or email him.
Another way to join us is to speak to any of our officials or, indeed, any other member, who will tell you of forthcoming events, pass your details on to our secretary and probably invite you to any impending play readings etc. The names of all our committee members can be found by clicking on The organisation. If you live in the Gosforth and Seascale area, you’re almost bound to know at least one of them.
Even better, why not come and meet us at one of our regular INFORMAL SOCIAL EVENINGS? These are held upstairs at the Horse and Groom, Gosforth, from 7.30 pm on the third Friday of the month. Bring a friend with you if you wish.
... Finally, if you’re feeling particularly brave, just turn up at one of our rehearsals, or at our AGM, and introduce yourself - or you can buttonhole anyone who looks like a member (eg, actors, tea ladies, raffle people, lighting crew, or the kindly gentleman who proffers you a free programme) at any of our productions.
Although new members won’t be pestered for a subscription, we are obliged, for insurance purposes, to insist upon payment before they take part in any aspect of a production. New members joining during the last four months of our operating year are eligible for reduced subscriptions.
