If you want to take photographs of yachts, by far the best place is from a boat, as the superb pictures by famous Cowes photographer Ken Beken bear testimony. However, this approach to the problem will, at best, make you very cold and wet and, unless you have the stamina and nautical skills of intrepid Cowes Radio commentator Dick Johnson, or take along a friend to control the boat, could result in a nasty collision. The next best place is probably from the Green or Egypt Esplanade at Cowes. This has the distinct advantages of being neither cold nor wet and the only collisions at all likely are with small boys on bicycles or harrassed mothers with uncontrollable push-chairs. Furthermore, one is always within easy walking distance of the refreshment kiosk and the loo. Needless to say, all the photographs below were all taken from solid terra firma at Cowes. |
